and so a new chapter begins

when i was 11 my sister {who was then 18} started college.  just the local college here in town.
for a kid who has only been in the states 5 years, and who is very, like. omigosh. so very reserved.
it was a big thing to do. she ended up graduating with a BA in music something or another.
i remember thinking how far off college was for me. little old 11yr old me couldn't imagine it!
then i watched my oldest brother go through college {first local, then ITT} and then my next brother. who's still in college right now, and probably won't graduate till i do. and then will probably go on to some other university.

i have been home educated my whole life, so basically. a class room is the most foreign thing to me ever. i'm used to doing my school all on my own. i've basically been teaching myself since i was able to read. don't get me wrong though, my mom did teach me too. but her style was more.
"here's a book, read it, if you need help, you know where to find me."
and i like that style of teaching. its all i've ever known.
so you can imagine, i'm a wee bit nervous.
because today i start my first {though half time} semester of college.
just two classes {because i am still finishing my last year of highschool}, no big deal at all.
in 11' i took a spanish class for one semester, but it was so easy i can't even consider it a real experience at college. but i'm still really thankful for having taken that class, at least i know a little bit of what to expect, you know. dealing with people and all..have i ever mentioned, i'm not a people person? ;)
and honestly, although i've fought and fought against going, i'm really glad the day is finally here.
waiting for it was annoying, i found plenty of distractions, but still.
its here. and a new chapter begins. just a very small, UN-unique chapter of life. and i'm excited for it.

  3. This is SUPER exciting! I know you have your apprehensions but I am a firm believer that life begins at the edge of our comfort zone. This just may end up being the best thing that ever happened to you.

  4. Eeeeeh. I hate going out in public. I've taken singing classes at the college since ninth grade, but that's easy because I love singing... and the teacher is really nice and friendly. As it is, though, the idea of going to class and stuff like that... for something other than singing is just.. awful.

    You're brave. :D

    Good luck and God bless!

  5. :D You'll prolly love it. I know how it is though, being so far out of ones comfort zone. gee. I'm not a people person either when it comes to things I'm so unfamiliar with. You're a brave lady. I'm glad I'm not in your position. :P <3 good luck with it though! I hope you have a great time. <3

  6. Congratulations! honestly though, you'll do great in college.

As far as the social aspect of it goes....just remember you only have to talk to as many people as you want.

But I think you'll love it. The new atmosphere, new challenges. I don't really even know you and I know you'll own.

  7. Good luck love:) I totally know that feeling. But it came for me when i was in middle school. B/c our school was so small that our middle and highschool kids all fit in one building. So i knew all the Seniors who were graduating and 18 and they were so ollld to me. And i remember thinking how far away that was for me and how different id be when i was 18 when really it all just happens at once. And even though there's been a lot of differences in me, i never had a moment when i woke up and felt different. It just happened you know? Time is weird. Anyways, i hope you have wonderful classes and i know you'll do great!

  9. I was in the exact same situation as you. My mom taught us kids in homeschool the same way. It was weird going to college (I also went half time my senior year), but I liked it a lot more than homeschool at first. Cause, even though I'm not a people person either, I enjoyed being around them for a few hours a day. It was a new experience and new perspective and I'll bet you'll enjoy your socks off! :)

  10. From someone who just finished last month, College is really the greatest experience. I know everyone's probably going to be telling you that, but it's the first time to live on your own, however you like with a structured safety net that allows you to try new things. (and yay for someone going to music school) Also, I'm a new follower so I just wanted to say hi. :)

  11. Oooh, I would agree; after being homeschooled, being in an actual classroom, with OTHER people would be very...weird!

I'm impressed that you're taking classes with your last year of highschool too! I don't think I could do that...
