Why Don't You Go Back To The Woods- by Jerry Douglas/Russ Barenberg/Edger Meyer
last night i was looking through all my photos and being just. happy. these pictures make me smile, they're mine, i took them and they all mean something to me and they all bring some sort of happy memory back.
i always thought that it was sort of a bad thing to love the things you make, like a prideful thing. true, it could become that. but as i've grown in my art, and as a person, i know that it isn't a bad thing.
its ok to love your own work, its healthy.
its not about being happy because other people love your art, although that certainly does add to the list of pros. its about loving what you make. putting your God given talent to work, finding passion in it. and if others enjoy your art, thats pretty fantastic too. its even cooler to bless people by your art. for me i can do that by taking pictures of people, i don't charge much, and sometimes i'd do it for free. but i love being able to bless others with pictures, sometimes drawings and even the occasional baby quilt.
i dunno where all this came from. i've had so many thoughts going on in my head lately, like more than is normal, which is scary. and this wasn't really one of them till now, and i know i left a lot unsaid. so anyway, there ya go, a little glimpse into my random mind. :)

p.s.
i loved reading all the comment on my last post!!! *hugstoall*
I like what you said in this post a lot. :) I don't think it's so much being proud of your work as... taking joy in it. So yes. I like that. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not much good with a camera. I mean, I know to point and click, but I'm not a photographer, so I enjoy just looking at other people's photos and being admiring. :)
cheers!
Yes! Loving the things you make is completely necessary.
ReplyDeleteI've said this way too many times, but I LOVE your pictures. And I agree 100% - art is sincerity. It's made from the artist's heart and if other people like it, great. Bonus.
ReplyDeleteThe book I read is called "Why We Broke Up." BUT, disclaimer, in my reading I found that it has swear words. Like enough that if it were a movie it'd be R. I wasn't impressed with that but the writing was so hilarious and unique and the story so interesting I just finished it in a day. I don't want to recommend something that you're possibly bothered by. I was bothered, won't read it again. but...yeah. Anyway. That's it!
The perspective in that first image of the cat is unlike anything I've ever seen!! Photo of the year on Blogger :)
ReplyDeleteYour photography is so freaking gorgeous....:D <3 <3 <3

ReplyDelete--You are awesome. I totally agree, however, your work is phenomenal. I especially love the cat one and all those fall leaves pictures. :) Much love!!! <3
Wow. Sooooo beautiful!!! You are one of the best photographers EVER!!!!! I really liked what you said about enjoying your own work too. I agree. I used to think that about my art. But then I realized that if I don't enjoy it and appreciate it, what was the point of doing it? Only for impressing others. And THAT is pointless. :D <3 <3
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Obviously I can't see all the meaning you can in those pictures, but I think I could guess pretty well, since some of them look quite a bit like mine, only different. (if you know what I mean) Stunning autumn pictures, 9 and 10, the baby bird on (your?) shoe, your cat and beagle (Thanks!) the 1 & 2 ones...just little bits of life. =)
That picture of the girl with Maple leaf = splendiferous! <3
